New Zealand is the first to introduce the world's strictest new regulations on motor energy efficiency

In April 2025, the Energy Efficiency and Energy Conservation Authority (EECA) of New Zealand released the "Consultation Document on Energy Efficiency Policy for Three-phase Squirrel-Cage Induction Motors", planning to raise the minimum energy efficiency standard (MEPS) for motors to the international leading level through a four-stage upgrade. The new regulation is expected to cover 85% of industrial motor equipment across the country and become the first regional regulation in the Asia-Pacific region to align with the EU IE4 standard.
